First Thoughts Prior to Re-Watching the Show:
I’ll give you all one guess as to why I’m re-watching this show right now. Just one. I should’ve honestly started this re-watch session quite a while back, but I genuinely forgot to do so and well, here we are now. I’m looking forward to seeing some of my favorite characters and scenes again and just reliving this great series. I’m all buckled in, are you?!
God, I forgot how much of a dick Bakugo was in the beginning. Yes, I understand what I said.
- Little Deku is the cutest, most precious creature to walk this Earth. We must protect him at all costs.
- Yeah, that scene where Deku is getting attacked by the goopy villain is not a good part to have to explain to someone that doesn’t watch anime.
- LOL. All Might’s “sh*t” always gets me. Also, the feels are about to start with the bond between the greatest hero and his biggest fan.
The first time I saw this, I didn’t think it was that solid of a first episode but watching it again, I can see that I was neither right nor wrong. I mean, yes, there are anime out there with much stronger pilot episodes, but after having watched all three seasons and slowly making my way to the fourth one real soon, I can appreciate this one much more than I did initially.
It gives us just enough information to understand what this world is like without being bombarded with an info dump straight out of the gate.
We get introduced to our three main characters with enough time to be able to absorb who they are and perhaps what roles they may play within the story before moving on to the next. We understand that Deku will be our hero, Bakugo will be his rival, and All Might will be his mentor. We get the three most important shounen roles filled out all in one episode, which I think is good so that, as I mentioned, we have enough time to “get to know them.”
We get this grand view of this incredible icon in the hero world, All Might, and start to receive glimpses here and there that this so-called ‘hero among heroes’ must have one, if not more, weaknesses that he’s trying so desperately to hide from the public eye. I mean, you see him inflate into this muscular manly man as he steps out of a convenience store, and then, later on, see him coughing up blood. Of course, that’ll all get touched upon later, but this all ends up giving him more humanity than any of the other professional heroes right off the get-go.
But, for now, we’re left with, “What’ll happen to Deku? What does his fateful meeting with All Might mean? And, will he ever get down from that building?”
I can’t wait to continue this re-watch session. The best is yet to come. Onwards to the next!
