Anime Manga Miscellaneous Writing

Sunshine Blogger Award

Here I was just working on writing my opinions for an episode for the seventh season of Yami Shibai when I get a notification that someone has commented on my Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood review. As I don’t normally have anyone commenting on my posts (I’m not trying to play Mr. Krabb’s small violin here, just stating the facts!), I was ecstatic to see what someone had to say about the show or what I had written. It was the lovely Inskidee. The comment was simple and to the point, and after a few friendly exchanges with one another, I was nominated for this Sunshine Blogger Award. I was speechless, thrilled, and nervous all at once. I’m normally a bundle of weird to begin with, but I’m sure me bobbing my head back and forth in happiness made me look even stranger. Oh well, who cares if the walls of my apartment judge me?

If it isn’t obvious enough yet, this is my first ever award on not only this site, but pretty much everywhere else on the internet, so I’m not really sure if I’ll be approaching this correctly or even in a comprehensive enough way.

I promise I’ll do my very best to follow in Inskidee’s footsteps and come out of this kind of unscathed.

Rules of the Award

  1. Thank the Blogger who nominated you and link back to your site. (I’m pretty sure I’ll start getting annoying if I keep expressions of gratitude toward Inskidee xD)
  2. Answer the eleven questions the Blogger asked you. (I’m so excited for this part!)
  3. Nominate eleven new blogs to receive the award and write them eleven questions. (Oh, boy… this is where I’ll be using all of my elbow grease for…)
  4. List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog. (I’m way ahead of you!)

Answers to Inskidee’s Awesome Questions!

  • Why did you start blogging?

Well, initially I started blogging because I’ve been writing for myself for as long as I can remember. I mostly just focus on novels and short stories. I eventually came to want to someday get something published. So, I’ve been working on a series for a while now trying to accomplish that goal of mine (I haven’t even finished the first novel yet, though, so take a guess how far I’ve gotten with that as a whole), but due to being so busy in my “normal” life, I’ve lost the motivation to continue with it. So, I thought it’d be a good idea to start a blog to at least stay in the habit of writing until that motivation comes back (I don’t want to force the story, but I probably should since I’m so close to finishing the first one). I love to write reviews and just talk about anime and manga in general, so it’s just been much more fun than I thought it’d be and has gotten me to write more than I would’ve during this time if I hadn’t.

  • What is your favorite anime genre and favorite anime in that genre?

My favorite anime genre is horror. I love everything about it throughout all mediums, but it’s so difficult to find good ones nowadays. I also am not just talking about the “BOO! Gotcha!” horror stories. I’m talking about the ones that make you physically, emotionally, and mentally uncomfortable or that give you new irrational fears (*cough* Ito Junji *cough*). But, as for my favorite anime in this genre, I’d say Mononoke is probably the winner? I mean, it’s a close tie with Shiki, but I guess I’ll pick Mononoke. Despite it being categorized as a horror story, it is one of the most colorful and vibrant shows I’ve ever seen to date. The main character,  Kusuriuri, is extremely mysterious yet incredibly charming, kind of like Johan Liebert. I actually included Mononoke in my Top 10 Anime To Watch In October post because I feel like it’s one that people need to check out. I’ll eventually write a legitimate review on it, as well (maybe soon since I keep talking about it lately).

  • Do you find Blog Posts in general hard to write?

I don’t find the actual blog posts hard to write at all. What I do find difficult is finding the time to actually write them. I work an 8am-5pm job Monday through Friday, so I don’t normally get home until like 5:45-6:00pm. By the time I’m done cooking something and eating, it’s 7:00pm. That, unfortunately, doesn’t leave me much time to watch anime and write a post about it (sad day). My weekends are always very busy, too, with events and errands, so it’s really just about finding the time to indulge in anime and manga and then to write a post about it. I love writing them, though.

  • What horror movie stereotype would you be and why?

Hmm, this is an interesting question that I’ve actually never sat down to think about. I think I would be that one loner character that is just kind of there, listening to everyone get hysterical and come up with very stupid ideas because of their fear. The one person that never says anything yet always manages to just barely survive the encounters with the killer. That’d be me, I think. I tend to keep to myself unless I’m spoken to or approached. I’m an outgoing antisocial, though, meaning that I’ll gladly talk  to people and hang out with them, but my default mode is to be by myself with my own thoughts and demons. This would especially come into play when my life is on the line and I’m surrounded by stereotypical horror movie characters. At that point it’s every man/woman for themselves! (unless I cherish the person, in which case I would then use my body as a literal shield to keep him/her safe from harm).

  • What is your guilty pleasure anime?

Hmm, a show that is my guilty pleasure…. Probably Death Parade? It’s one I’ve watched countless times already and one I’m constantly trying to get one of my brothers to watch whenever I’m at his place (I keep failing). I quite frequently find myself watching/listening to several scenes every once in a while, as well, the soundtrack. Every single song in that soundtrack is spectacular. Not to mention how catchy the opening song is and contradictory to the overall theme of the show. The ending song is also one I’m absolutely in love with. I don’t know, for such a dark and psychological show, I tend to find a lot of tranquility and serenity watching it, so I guess it’s my guilty pleasure when it comes to anime? It’s the complete opposite scenario when it comes to manga, but that’s a story for another time.

  • What was the hardest thing for you to do during your time blogging?

This answer pretty much ties into one of the other answers above. Time. It’s just trying to find the time to do it. I had created my blog last year as a source of me just venting my opinions essentially and getting in that writing practice. It didn’t become what it’s slowly turning into now until a couple of months ago when I decided to give it a bit more focus. I’m trying to be consistent about posting every other day, and so far it’s working for me (one day I watch an episode and the next I take the time to write a review). Hopefully, I continue to stay consistent.

  • What’s your personality type?

I’m classified as an INFP, so The Mediator. As I mentioned in the horror movie stereotype question, I’m not a full introvert. I enjoy hanging out with people. But, that generally costs me energy and being alone replenishes that lost energy for me. As you should know by now, I absolutely adore writing and I’m undeniably fascinated by the art of storytelling. Another huge part of me that is apparently found within others of the INFP class is that I put the happiness and wellbeing of those I cherish before my own. I don’t do that for just anybody. They have to really be inside of my heart for me to even consider doing that, which is literally just immediate family and my person for me.

  • What’s your story on how you got into anime?

Well, as is common with a lot of people, I’ve been watching Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! since they first started airing in the United States. But, at that time, I had no idea what anime was. I thought they were just regular American cartoons. It wasn’t until later that I learned what anime is When I was in the 6th grade, I went over to a family friend’s house for a get-together (my family and their friends liked to get together every Saturday at different houses). I walked in and asked where my friend was and I was told that he was upstairs. When I got to his room, I saw that he was transfixed to the TV screen, with one of my brothers sitting alongside him. Instead of walking in like a normal person, I stood at the doorway like a creep and continued to watch from there. I still remember the exact scene that they were watching, too. It’s when Team 7 first encounters Zabuza on their way to Tazuna’s village. The part I was fascinated by was when Zabuza traps Kakashi in the water prison jutsu. I thought it was the most incredible scene I’d ever witnessed. So, I stood there until the episode finished and then kept it to myself (I don’t know why I couldn’t just ask him what it was). When I went to the store later that week, I saw a copy of Shounen Jump being sold and I saw Naruto on the cover and I freaked out because I had “found it!” I read through that in a matter of maybe a few hours (which was a feat for a 6th grader who had no idea how manga was supposed to be read). I eventually found out that Naruto was airing on Toonami, and the rest, as they say, is history.

  • What is your most commonly reoccurring emotion whilst blogging be it making blogs, reading other’s blogs, collaborating with other bloggers, projects, etc.

Since I’m very new to this blog community, I haven’t had much experience interacting with others or really had the chance to truly dive into other’s blog’s as much as I would love to. So, I’ll only be talking about the emotions I feel when I create my own. Happy to be doing what I love to do.  Content at having a platform to share my opinions on. Proud of being able to complete a piece of writing. Excited at the thought that others may stumble across my posts and enjoy what I write. It’s a lot of good emotions that flood through me and it’s helping me to remember why it is that I love to write so much (and talk so much apparently).

  • If you could recommend the entire world one anime to watch, which one would it be?

MONSTER. GO. WATCH/READ NOW. I cannot stress this enough, but this is hands-down my favorite fictional story of all time. Everything about it is so incredibly beautiful and mesmerizing. Even with some of its flaws, I find every aspect of it so perfect and well-executed. If you need more convincing (which, what’s your problem if you do? GO WATCH IT), read my review for it. It was my first ever review that I wrote and it’s 100% biased, but I don’t care because it’s an incredible story. Stop reading this and go! Shoo! Come back after you’ve watched it… I’m kidding, please don’t feel forced to do what I say. I’m about as physically terrifying as a quokka.

  • How done are you with Isekai at this point?

I have to be honest, I don’t watch Isekai very often. The few that I’ve actually watched I’ve surprisingly enjoyed, like RE:Zero karu Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu and, I can’t for the life of me tell you why, Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu. Why the heck do isekai shows have such long-ass names?! Anyway, since I barely watch any, I guess I’m not exactly “done” with the genre yet? I’m fairly sure if I watch more, I will be, though!

11 Nominations!

Oh man, I’m done with the questions already?! Answering them was so much fun! They helped me realize a few things about myself that I hadn’t really considered in a while, like the fact that I genuinely love to write and should probably get back to trying to get published.

Anyway, enough about me! Now it’s time for 11 others to be put into the spotlight (muahaha).

I wouldn’t doubt it if y’all have already received this nomination/award from countless other bloggers before, but y’all are also bloggers I’ve been checking out a lot more recently and have enjoyed from what I’ve seen so far. I’ll be diving more into your sites in the future, so please keep writing and posting!

Okay, so I love asking a variety of different types of questions whenever I have the opportunity to do so, so I’ll be asking a mix of some normal ones and some, well, “fun” ones, I suppose. I can’t wait to read everyone’s responses!

-What is the most useless talent you have? We all have one, so what’s yours?

-Who is your all-time favorite fictional character across any entertainment form (movies, anime, literature, TV shows, etc.), and why?

-What is your #1 favorite film of all time and why? You can only pick ONE.

-What’s the dumbest purchase you’ve ever made, and do you regret it?

-What was the biggest misconception you had growing up?

-What’s your spirit animal and why do you think that?

-If you were a fictional character, who would you be and why?

-What’s the longest you’ve gone without showering? And please don’t lie. We’ve all had a point in our lives where showering was just not in our schedule for a while.

-What do you do when a baby stares at you in public and refuses to look away?

-When was a time you lied and got away with it? I promise I won’t tell the cops… Maybe…We’ll see… Okay, I can’t promise anything, just answer the question.

-I guess I should ask a blog related question for the last one, huh? Okay, fine… What has been your most successful post and why do you think it was so appealing to your audience?

Oh man, that was unbelievably fun to do and write. Thank you again, Inskidee, for the opportunity to do this! If any of you haven’t checked out their blog site, please do! It’s full of such entertaining posts regarding anime. I just got introduced to their site, but boy does it hit all of my happy buttons when I read the posts.

Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed this long post of me just rambling away. See y’all next time!

I’m a 27-year-old story-telling fan. I enjoy all forms of media, including anime, manga, literature, films, video games, music, and everything else in between. I’ve been writing short stories and novels for myself as a hobby for as long as I can remember. I’ve never considered myself good enough to become published, but I’m hoping to change that someday. I’m a huge sucker for characters, so that’s usually what will make or break a majority of stories for me. Other than that, I spend my days working and trying to pay my bills (how fun, right?).

  1. Haha, I really enjoyed reading your answers! Especially your fangirl session on Monster. I haven’t gotten around to reading that manga yet (it’s been sitting in my PTW list foreeveerr) so that section was a nice wake-up call to tell me to get up and read a book for once. It was a delightful experience getting to know more about you and your blog. I look forward to what your nominees have to say to your questions that are definitely on the original side haha.

    • Thank you! Oh man, yesss if you really like psychological stories, then you most definitely have to check it out. If you prefer anime over manga, just know that it’s a 100% true adaptation of the manga, so you won’t be missing out with however you decide to experience it. It’s phenomenal.
Thank you for reading! It was super fun to write out the answers. I’m excited for them all to answer my questions, as well, because I definitely had a good time thinking them up, haha.

I’m glad there’s someone else out there that’s familiar with Yami Shibai. As bad as some of the episodes can be, I never miss a season. It’s a fun series regardless of its flaws.
Thank you for checking out my posts! I’m excited to continue to read yours, as well.

Oh man, you have so much more free time than me, what’s going on?! Just kidding xD I’m just trying to get myself into a habit even with limited time. I want to have a solid foundation before I decide to change my posting schedule to reflect one that’ll be a bit easier to handle.
